JANUARY 12- 27, 2023

Home to some of the most spectacular landscapes in the world, Vietnam is a traveler’s dream come true.  With towering mountains, picturesque cities and villages, and magnificent beaches, there is wonder everywhere you look.  During this 16-day expedition you will experience all that this amazing country has to offer, from its unique culture to flavorful street food, to meeting with friendly minority tribes.

We will begin our tour in Hanoi with a welcome dinner at a local restaurant.  The next morning, we will learn how to make rice paper in the village of Tho Ha, followed by an afternoon visit to the Temple of Literature and then a water puppet show.  With plenty of leisure time to explore the old town you can visit markets, temples, and St. Joseph Cathedral, which has a stunning likeness to Notre Dame.

The third day commences with an early morning visit to a local flower market.  After breakfast at our hotel we are off to explore the amazing Halong Bay.  We will board our cruise ship, the Indochina Sails, for a day of sightseeing, kayaking, and spelunking.  Go to www.indochinasails.com to check out the style in which you will be traveling.  Happy hour on the deck as we watch the sun set, dinner, and overnight on board!

On Day 4 you will wake up to the beautiful views of the bay while we have  breakfast and continue our sail.  Later in the day we will end our sailing adventure and return to Hanoi with plenty of free time to eat, sightsee, or just relax at a local bar.  At 9:00 we will all board the local Chapa Express train for our overnight ride to Lao Cai.

We will arrive early on the morning of our fifth day and have breakfast at a local restaurant.  We will then head to the Bac Ha Sunday Market which is a must see.  Later that day we head to Sapa for some rest and relaxation.

We visit the Black H’Mong and Red Dao villages on our sixth day before going to shoot the sunset at O Quy Ho Pass.  We spend another evening in Sapa.

The 7th day begins with our visit to Xa Pho ethnic group at Thanh Phu.  We will continue after our visit to the Noi Bai airport where we will catch our flight to Hue.  Upon arrival in Hue, we will be met by our driver and taken to our hotel for check-in.

The Citadel, the Tu Duc Tomb, and the Thien Mu Pagoda highlight our 8th day.  We will have local models at our disposal to enhance shooting at these locations.  We will also be able to photograph the locals who make the conical hats in their village.

Day 9 will see us travel from Hue to Hoi An over the Hai Van Pass.  We will stop numerous times to shoot various sights along the way.  Upon arrival in Hoi An there will be ample opportunities to shoot the many colorful lanterns in the city.  Since Hoi An is called the Venice of Vietnam, there will be no shortage of photo ops and things to see and do.

The tenth day in its’ entirety will be spent in Hoi An going to a local fish market, roaming the streets of old neighborhoods, and seeing the Thien Hau Temple.

On the 11th day we will take in a vegetable market, come back to our hotel for breakfast, the take a short 45-minute drive to Da Nang.  The afternoon and evening are at your leisure.

The next two days in Da Nang are at yours to spend as you wish.  With the beautiful My Khe Beach, the Marble Mountains, Son Tra Mountain, the UNESCO World Heritage site – My Son Sanctuary, the Dragon Bridge, and the newly opened Golden Hands Bridge there is no shortage of things to see and do.  Relax on the beach or grab your camera and shoot til your hearts content – it is your choice!z
